I submitted my review to Amazon for A Room Full of Elephants by Anthony Camber and got this:
“Sorry, we are unable to accept your review of this product. Amazon does not permit reviews from customers whose relationship to the product or seller may be perceived as biased or who have previously submitted a review on the product that did not comply with our Customer Reviews Guidelines.”
I have NO relationship with this author, I never heard of him until I picked the book up on a whim, the review meets ALL the guidelines, and Oh BTW I PAID FOR THIS BOOK ON AMAZON, full freight, no discounts.
This isn’t the first time this has happened. I’ve been reviewing books for a very long time, but apparently some asshole has flagged me as having “relationships” with all and sundry, yet at the same time Amazon *constantly* hounds me to review books I’ve purchased.
My solution (and not my first choice, lemme tell ya) was to open an account in Goodreads under Beach Bum Books and post it there.
If you’d like to read the REVIEW, you can find it on this BLOG or on GOODREADS.
Authors, I feel your pain. If you ever wonder why you aren’t getting any reviews for your titles, it may not be for lack of interest, but rather AMAZON’S DRACONIAN AND ILLOGICAL POLICIES that prohibit readers who have made LEGITIMATE PURCHASES from reviewing your work.
Am I pissed? Oh, you betcha.
Do you think it is the genre?

Well, some folks think the MM genre is being targeted. I don’t have any data to support that claim one way or another. I think it’s probably just the Zon’s inconsistency and making up rules on the fly. For a company touting “customer satisfaction” they certainly aren’t satisfying *this* customer. I can take my hard earned dollars elsewhere. And I plan to do just that.
